REMINDERS:
Wow words: Please continue to help your child gather new words each week through their reading and your conversations at home and bring them in on Wow Word Wednesday. Here are links to an online dictionary (Merriam Webster for kids - Word Central) and our wow word worksheet in case you need a new one. This is an ongoing reminder for the year. Please make acquiring new words part of your home routine.
CURRICULUM UPDATE:
In reading we:
Next week, we will continue reading books about friendship and exploring characters in books.
- Finished our James Marshall reader's theaters.
- Read books about friendship.
- Worked in our independent reading books to learn more about our characters through character actions and dialogue.
Next week, we will continue reading books about friendship and exploring characters in books.
In Fundations (Word Study):
- We almost finished our work in unit 8, in which we we focused on ar and or r-controlled syllables. Our trick words were world, different and answer.
Next week, we will begin working in unit 9, in which we focus on the sounds of er, ir and ur. Our trick words will be picture, learn, earth, father, brother and mother.
In writing/social studies:
- We continued our special writing project on Mexico. We took notes on our topics, organized those notes in a graphic organizer and many students began writing their teaching books.
Next week, we will continue our work on our Mexico writing project.
In math:
- We continued our work in our project-based unit, Ages and Timelines.
- We used used our own family information to determine difference in ages, how long it will take to become the ages of family members and how old family members will be when the student is their age. We used an open number line to support addition and subtraction
Next week, we will continue working with number stories to support addition and subtraction strategies.
